This guidance includes a CD of symbols to assist with the population of plans - it is advisable to consult with your local Fire Authority with reference to their preferred symbolism. The guidance and symbols have been developed with experienced fire service professionals.
Secure Information Box Requirement – What You Need to Know
As of 23 January 2023, it is a legal requirement for all existing high-rise residential buildings in England to have a secure information box installed on-site. The Gerda Premises Information Box Standard Grade (also known as site information boxes) are compliant with these laws.
What Must Be Inside:
- UK contact details of the responsible person
- UK contact details for anyone else authorised to access the building
- Up-to-date floor plans highlighting key firefighting equipment
- A one-page block plan showing the location of essential fire safety systems
Ongoing Responsibilities:
- Must be accessible to fire and rescue services
- Contents must be accurate and regularly updated
- The box must be securely maintained
This regulation was introduced following the Grenfell Tower Inquiry, which identified the lack of on-site information as a serious risk during emergency response.
